If you arrive at Inwa from the north east (see Google Map on right side of this page), you have to pay K800 per person (plus K400 per motorbike) for a quick ferry across the river to enter the ancient city. On the other side, you will be confronted by people touting their horse and cart tours, costing around K5,000 or K2,500 per person; the area is large enough that walking is likely to be too tiring and time-consuming for most people, particularly in the heat. However, if you hire a motorbike, then you can use it to get around.

Arriving at Inwa from the south (which is a longer loop from Mandalay), you cross the water by road bridge and do not need to pay.

Guided tour – A one day tour (by car) to Inwa, Amarapura and Sagaing will start from your accommodation in Mandalay and typically last from 9am to 5pm.

By pick-up – Pick-ups leave from downtown Mandalay, near Zegyo Market (departure point is around the corner of 29th and 84th streets). This is cheap at K300, but may involve waiting around and a crowded journey. Pick-ups continue to Sagaing. You will need to tell the driver where you want to get off.
