There are also regular long-distance buses to Mandalay (18 hours, K30,000) and Magwe (14 hours, K30,000) – you can connect to Bagan at Magwe. The overland routes are, however, long and often uncomfortable - and sometimes restricted by the political situation in parts of Rakhine State.

There is a public bus to Sittwe (4 hours journey time and cheap at K2,500, but be prepared for a rough journey and little place to put your body or baggage!).
