Cruise around the outskirts of Mandalay to get to know your bike, before heading up into the hills towards Pyin U Lwin. Sometimes still known by its colonial-era name of Maymyo, and also called The Flower City, this charming town with its colourful botanical gardens was once the summer retreat of officials of the British Raj.
Start your ride early, taking in the mountain roads around Pyin U Lwin; visit waterfalls, have a paddle in their waters, and see some Buddhist temples before having lunch back in town. Make your way back to Mandalay on a different, unpaved route that zigzags down through the hills to the plain below.
