Buses go to Hlaing Thar Yar bus station (also known as Dagon Ayar) in Yangon - note that this is a different bus station to the one you would use for most other destinations in the country.

To Yangon – There are daily trains but the journey is extremely slow; taking the bus is a better alternative.

Boat

You can get from Pathein to Yangon by boat, and it makes for an interesting (but very slow) route through the Irrawaddy Delta. The journey takes around 20 hours.
